The Second Southeast Asia Water Forum aims to build a regional commitment toward enhancement of integrated water resources management and effective water governance among IWRM practitioners in recognition of the need of implementing IWRM principles and processes as well as water efficiency plan starting in 2005. The Forums specific objective are:
- Define, validate and formulate an action plan in implementing IWRM taking into account water management issues in the Southeast Asia Region that has been identified in the 1 st SEAWF among other are: i) promotion of the national policy toward increasing investment levels in achieving the Millennium Development goal and the World Food Summit Goals; ii) implementation of IWRM by using the river basin approach including conjunctive use of surface and groundwater; iii) enhancement of the efficiency, equity and productivity of water uses in the agriculture, urban, industrial and other sectors; and iv) improve and transform large rice irrigation system for participatory and decentralized management;
- Present case studies and experiences on actual water management at various levels (e/g., basin, country, region) focusing on lessons learned and best practices;
- Formulate frameworks and proposals for action for national and regional cooperation on IWRM following the goals and outcomes of World Summit on Sustainability Development, Millennium Development Goals and the Third World Water Forum; and
- Strengthening close regional cooperation among meteorologists, hydrologists and water managers in coping with climate variability and climate change, floods and droughts
